Jack M.Gill, one of a handful of individuals who have founded, funded and built market leading companies as an entrepreneur, senior executive and a founding managing partner of a venture franchise. He was founder and General Partner of Vanguard Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in high technology start-ups, located in Palo Alto, California and Houston, Texas. During the tenure of Jack’s involvement and leadership, Vanguard consistently delivered top quartile returns.
Prior to co founding Vanguard in October 1981, Jack was Executive Vice President of Spectra Physics, Inc., which acquired Autolab, a company Jack founded. Autolab pioneered the application of microprocessor-based instruments and computers for chromatography laboratory applications. Prior to founding AutoLab, Jack worked at Varian and Monsanto.
Jack earned a chemistry and engineering degree from Lamar University and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Indiana University. Jack has served as President of the Lamar University Foundation and is currently a member of Indiana University Deans’ Advisory Boards of the School of Business and the School of Arts and Sciences as well as a Director of the IU Foundation.
Jack is a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty, a senior advisor to the Harvard-MIT CIMIT program, and is currently teaching at HMS and MIT. He also servers on the boards of MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Project HOPE, and the President’s Circle of the National Academies.
His social passions are creating innovative programs in entrepreneur education, fostering productive collaborations of science, engineering, medicine and entrepreneurship.
